Supreme Court Will Not Delay Home Care Overtime Pay

Based on a Supreme Court ruling, approximately 2 million home health workers will be extended overtime and minimum wage protections starting October 13, 2015. The rule was originally set to take effect in January 2015, but was postponed when a federal judge ruled that the Department of Labor had overstepped its authority. While the rule may be beneficial to workers, some worry that it will cause the cost of care to go up and become unaffordable to the consumer, which could ultimately lead to lower quality of care.
